19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

It happened!! It finally happened!! Just now! One of my Cinnamon Queens laid this little beauty just a day shy of 23 weeks! This is my first egg ever! I can't remember the last time I was so excited, I'm making more noise than she did!! And also I would like to wish a hearty congratulations to everyone else who got their first eggs recently, it means a lot more once you have experienced the same thing!

I think my RIR likes torturing me. Yesterday I heard the egg song, went outside to check, and found her just standing under a bush. She looked at me like, "Ha ha, just kidding!" and ran off. I checked the bush high and low, but no egg. This is what I've been reduced to. 27 weeks old, and a total meanie!

This is just meant as a funny story, but we received our three naked neck pullets not knowing exactly how old they were. After two months they had developed their combs and started making nests, so we knew it was going to be any day. Well as I do, I was sitting in the coop with my wine spritzer and book, reading. I wasn't paying attention and before I knew it, one of the girls got a gulp of the wine-two days later -our first egg!!

Too funny! From what I understand, chickens can make mean drunks.

I swear, we're all nuts! But, until you've gone through the entire experience of getting chicks, building a coop, raising them and waiting for them to lay, etc., you can't appreciate the excitement eggs bring. Congrats!! Ain't it GRAND??

I love it when simple things bring so much joy.

Wiggy I'm sorry! I know how you feel though, I had a BO last year and by the time she was 8 months old she still had not started laying! I've heard several stories about BOs waiting forever to lay. Here's hoping you get one soon!! And thank you everyone!! I'm just so pleased, I've been on cloud 9 all day! I've had chickens for a whole year...it was about darn time lol! So worth it.

Happy Birthday, Nutella, my 32 week old maran! Sigh.

The thing is, she doesn't even look all that close. She's very skinny and still small- I'd peg her for 16-20 weeks. Her comb is getting nice and red though.

Come on, Nutella! We want our first chocolate egg!

I also have a 13 week old Salmon Faverolle, Sammy, who I'm waiting on- although of course it will be awhile for her! She is SO sweet though- I don't even care if she lays or not! She's just adorable. She's follows Nutella around constantly, and seems to think she's her mother. They are so adorable. They stay clear of the rest of the big girl flock though :)
