HOWEVER, today I went and checked and I had not 1, not 2, but 7 YES I said 7 eggs!!! AHHHHHH, 6 brown and one beautiful blue one!!!! Such a great day, can't wait to see what I have tomorrow!!

I use a combination of dried pine needles and wood shavings and they seem to like that. I also put a lot of loose feathers in there and since we recently cut our lavender I put that in too. Now the hen house smells like lavender! Mmm! Barred Rocks are amazing, my little Petrie is such a cutie! Love her light brown eggs. My SLW lays really pale brown too
mine really preferred an old pile of dried oak leaves they found by themselves behind the shed when they first started to lay. I added dried grass clippings for a little padding since it was in a landscaped rock bed, then I was worried about the cats or squirrels getting the eggs, so moved them into the coop by locking them up for a few days until they layed and got the hang of using the boxes inside. Now its really cute we had three in three boxes all at once today. Megan I love the lavender idea sounds like a pleasant thing to try

Thank you!! I was super shocked and had to run and get my kids so they could collect them. They were all so happy they had to run and tell our neighbor and show off the eggs.

I felt like such a proud mamma. Don't get me wrong. They were not very big, but they were perfectly shaped. This is the first time I have ever had chickens so I am assuming that they will increase in size as the chickens get older.

yes we started saving ours in cartons in the fridge(they start to pile up quick) and you can see the size increase regularly, almost daily, I love the fact that i can tell which hen lays which egg by size and color, although similar(i have all brown egg layers, except my Barred Rock she lays light brown, almost pink,I can still see just subtle changes between each hen.(LOL yes I spend way too much time watching them, but enjoying the heck outta our new girls)

My little girl Sammy is growing up so fast! Tommorow she will be 15 weeks! She's already started to get reddened up on her face. I hope she's an early layer, unlike her BF, Nutella the Maran, who is thirty two weeks! She has had an extreme case of mites and is a runt, so that's why she hasn't laid. But if she's not careful, Sammy is going to lay first! She almost as big as her already ;)

My girls started laying less than 3 weeks ago and were consistently laying 2-4 eggs a day last week. We went on a week long vacation and came back to the house sitter telling us she had thoroughly enjoyed finding 5-7 eggs a day! Must have been all that good feed and lots of boring rest in the run, since they were confined while we vacationed! Woohoo, I have at least 7 layers out of 11 now!

My Wyandottes started laying a couple of weeks ago well 2 of them did, They laid 2 eggs each Now nothing for the last week, they have plenty water & food, they aren't eating their eggs Is this normal?

Make sure they aren't hiding them somewhere in the yard....did they lay in nest boxes when they laid their firsts?

They aren't free range. I put an egg in there just to make sure they weren't eating them it was there for 4 days and they left it alone, my banties are 2 weeks younger and laying like crazy
