omg hell no lolNext he'll be sharing his "toothpaste tube" technique. He's got the hens on quotas.![]()
Yesterday my RSL laid her first egg and she laid another for me today! Two hens a layin' and 3 more to go. My next one to lay will be my EE so I'm very excited to see what color it will be!I'm still waiting for my red sex link to lay. All the signs are there:
Big red comb - check
Squatting for over a week now - check
24 weeks of age - check
Piles up hay in the corner every day - check
That's four checks and no eggs!Maybe I should make up some dumplings!![]()
Hee hee good luck...most Cochins I hear are late bloomers...as it is 20 weeks is young for most breeds anyway. It could happen, my Leghorn layed at 16 1/2 weeks but again, a breed designed specifically as an egg machine. The bantam eggs will be so cute though! Are you going to hatch any? Cochins make great moms. Make sure your girls are on layer ration and/or have supplemental oyster shell for calcium.I have a black cochin bantam who will be 20 weeks on the 20th. Can I join? They lay around 20 weeks, don't they?

I have a black cochin bantam too! She laid her first at 24.5 weeks so you may have a bit longer to go. I have a lavender splash that is probably her hatchmate and she has yet to lay at 26 weeks.I have a black cochin bantam who will be 20 weeks on the 20th. Can I join? My cochins (not bantams) are 22 weeks, no signs of eggs. I have decided to stop bugging them until 6 months.. out of the ones I have the Dark Brahmas look the least mature, even though they are the same age. The cochins look more 'ready'. Nobody is squatting, but i'm not sure what this squatting is supposed to look like anyway... so maybe they are doing it when i'm not looking or something.I have a black cochin bantam too! I will say though that her comb and wattles were a lot smaller than I thought they should be when she started, especially compared to my sex links (even after averaging lengths to accommodate for the size difference between bantam and large fowl) so she could surprise you! I sure was surprised to see that first tiny little cream egg. Hey, when she does start, if you would head over to my thread 'why are some cochin eggs brown and others cream/white?' and post what your first egg looks like! We are trying to figure out why there is such a big color difference between cochins.
