19-year-old gets 3 years' probation for setting live chicken on fire

its a sick world we live in now, if the judge had come down harder, or his parents had been harder on him when he was growing up, maybe he wouldn't even think of such acts but more than likely, when he did something wrong his parents didn't correct him, parents nowdays think their kids can do no wrong and don't hold the kids accountable for their actions. just plain wrong.

I have a sign on my desk that says:
"Our response should be dictated by the severity of the crime, not the species of the victim."
I came across this quote years ago after reading a similar story about a man setting a bunny on fire. Cruelty to animals never stops there.
Personally, I'm getting tired of sharing my planet with these people. My new plan for my retirement is to buy a large vehicle with a big front bumper, and I'm going to drive around the country running over all the people like this who have made me angry over the years. I'm making a list!

The problem with these jerks is the thinking that its just an animal. Its just a chicken... I threatened to shoot some kids that came after my chickens on their bikes. came up in my yard! I don't have a gun, but scared the kid, he went home told his mom and she called the cops on me. I got a reprimand, but when I told the cop what the little bas**** did, he went back to the parents and informed them that he was caught in the act of terrorizing them. I hope he learns a lesson. But thats just it. If he had hurt one of them, what would have happened? Next to nothing. Dogs and cats warrant a sentencing stronger than 3 yrs probation. A cow, goat, sheep, would have... But it was a chicken.. SO three years was adequate. Good thing he lives far from me. I'd catch him on a bad night and beat the poop out of him, and then sick all my chickens on his a$$ and let them finish the job. Thats chicken karma.

Guys, here my chickens are an "Attractive nuisance" (like a swimming pool) and I'm being allowed to keep them as long as:

1) nobody complains for smell or attracting vermin (we are already immune to sound ordinance)
2) they are not 'at large'

Post like these are FUEL for the ppl who do NOT want chickens in cities.

They can Google this page... they will find that

1)Chicken ppl -seem- to value chickens over humans..
2)Chicken ppl will do 'immoral' or 'illegal' things to keep chickens safe...

Please review what you posted about doing to a human... even a bad human.

“It’s just a chicken, but it is a living thing that you put in an extraordinary amount of pain,” Annis ( the judge ) said.

So. Here's that "it's just a chicken" phrase that I hate so much, popping up again...this time in court. You never hear, "it's just a dog", or, "it's just a cat"....

I never want to hear the expression "it's just a chicken" ever again. The first time I heard it was from my neighbors, whose dog killed my hen. That dog is gone now.

Oh wait, I'll say it: "it was just a dog".

That 19 year old needs serious psychological help. Scary.

I understand you all want to keep your chickens BUT that shouldn't mean that we just sit back and turn a blind eye on what is happening in fear of loosing our own chickens.
This is like... a mum and her kids are walking in the park and the mum sees another parent bashing their kid but turns a blind eye in fear of having her kids taken from her. That would not happen though, she probably would be able to beat that person to a pulp without getting into too much trouble. So why is it different with animals. The law HAS to change.
Saying that though, I would get rid of all my chickens if it meant that other chickens in the world would be safe.

I value my mother and my father more than my chickens, but the chickens are like my children. I don't have a boyfriend so they fill that one empty space in my heart. Brazen bull sounds A-okay to me^^ (just kidding for the slow folks). Animal cruelty is bad. Animal cruelty for some sick satisfaction or amusement? A step too far. It also shows that the lad may be mentally unstable. Prison and a shrink may help him.
But the brazen bull.. *heats the brazen bull*
