I have a first time broody sitting on 3 eggs that I should have left well enough alone. Today was day 5 and in my excitement to candle the eggs and see if I could make out anything at all I cracked one.

Thing is there was not a trace of blood in it or anything at all that looked abnormal. Does that mean the egg was never fertile to begin with? My broody does get off a few times a day, but not for very long. Should I leave the other 2 under her and hope for the best? Also, if she continues to sit I think I'll need to isolate her and her nest at some point. How long should I wait to do that? Thanks in advance for any advice.

please dont take offense--you have a roo right? If so..Then I would leave the other two eggs under her and hope they are fertile-If your going to move her Id do it now though-are you afriad of the other birds harming her or the eggs?

I have 2 roos in my small flock. lol. The eggs she's sitting on, however, are silkie eggs that I purchased on ebay. (sold , of course, as fertile hatching eggs.) I didn't want to isolate her too soon because she would really miss her coop mates and I have no fear of them hurting her or her eggs... they wouldn't dare cross Miss Lola especially now that she's broody. I do want to get her out before there are babies (if there are to be babies) because I'm not sure what would happen then. Really, I'm afraid to put her alone in a dog crate for no reason and then have to reintroduce her. Does that make sense? I may be putting too much thought in to this. Like I said, it's my 1st time with a broody. I tried to break her for a while then gave up and bought the silkie eggs. I figured if she wanted to to spend all her time in the nesting box I mind's well have her hatch something I really want. I really want silkies and will have some within the next month one way or another.
