I haven't had chickens since I was little, but we bought 3 little Silkies today. They are currently chirping away in a plastic bin with a light over them.

One of them seems to be opening his beak/mouth frequently.

Like, he's stretching his neck and doing it.

I don't know much about how they eat, is he regurgitating his food and then eating it? Not sure.

Want to make sure nothing's wrong with them!

Other than that, all are eating fine, eating out of my hand.

They don't regurgitate food. Could he be trying to pant from being too hot? Do they have room to get out of the light and are they toward the edge of the light or the center? If they are cramming toward the edge of the container away from the center of the light they are too hot. If they huddle in the center they are too cold.

Chickie does it too. I thought she had something caught in her mouth or throat. She finds my hair around and tries to eat it; I have had to pull it from her beak. I sure hope it is just a way of stretching.

We have the light on the side. But I started noticing it when we were driving him home and he was in a crate. Then later yesterday he was on my husband's shoulder doing that.

They seem fine otherwise, eating well.

Our bigger chick (Peeps, 6-8 weeks old?) does this. I thought it meant he was thirsty. My DP thought it meant he was hungry. Then lately, we thought maybe it meant he was a rooster. But now we have two baby chickies (RIR) about a week old, and I've noticed them doing the same thing once in a while.

A lot of my chicks do that and they are all fine. My 12 week olds did it all the time as chicks. I think they are just stretching or maybe trying to help food down a bit. Nothing to worry about
