I put my eggs in lock down this morning with paper towel on the floor of the incubator so as to keep the chicks off the grate. This afternoon I noticed that the paper towel had obsorbed the water in the trays and my humidity was reading quite low (around 60%). I added more water but am concerned if I am getting accurate humidity readings or if the eggs will be alright on the wet paper towel .

I recommend you do a search for 'dry hatching.' 60% humidity is very high. Sitting hens' bodies don't provide that much humidity. A lot of seasoned hatchers on here set humidity around 30-40%. That was what I did for my first hatch a few weeks ago, and I got 17 chicks out of 18 eggs. Good luck with your hatch.

60% is fine for lockdown.
