1st time incubating temp drop :(

Well, we started out with one pip around 6am. Came home around 4pm mid zip and as of 1am, no more progress with that one ;/ but we do have a 2nd pip with 8 to go! How is everything going there??
zips should not take more than 90 minutes

So my 1st egg to pip and start to zip died mid zip

I feel terrible. The 2nd pip is still in there chirping away and the hole is A LITTLE bigger but no zipping. It's only been about 10 hrs from pip so I'm not worrying (ok, maybe a little!) and we have one more new pip. I'm crossing my fingers that these don't die too...I have no idea what happened.
pip to zip can be 24 +- hours

Do you have a lid on that tote?
good question

I do.. with some small, non cat/dog accessible air vents.

I'm sure they will be fine.. they can't be tipped.. at worse the tote will be marked for ownership. (Two uncut males in the house. They don't normally do bad things but the whole "This new thing is mine!" "No mine!" type thing can cause some territory marking.)

I'm just a worry wart... LOL

Hope you like your chicken well done. Seriously the lid and a 100watt bulb will cook them they only need to be about 89º .

heck i use a 40w in my incubator
I have two 40wts in my clear sided tub incubator. And so far doing great. Ambient temp in cabin is low right now (63) hough and the clear tubs don't hold heat as long and are a lot taller than most styrobators.

So yeah up at the top might be in the 100-101 range but egg level is usually 1-3 degrees lower.

On the other hand, at halfway through hatch I am right on target for what went into lockdown on shipped eggs.
