I have 2 black australorp hens. 1 finally laid her first egg. However she laid an egg skipped a day and laid again. Is it common for first time egg layers to be irregular?

They have a large run & large coop
I just added oyster shells in case she needs more calcium.

Congratulations on your first egg! :ya
Until their reproductive kinks work out, it is not unusual to have inconsistencies in their laying behavior.
Just be sure to provide fortified feed, fresh water, limit treats and continue to provide oyster shell.
Best wishes and Be well!

Also, don't be alarmed if she gives you weird eggs... super tiny, or odd shaped, even soft shelled eggs. Sometimes it takes a while for a new layer to get all the kinks worked out. :)

Most birds do not lay every single day.
