Ahhhh... I'm just going by the limited amount of material I've read on the net. Honestly, I know as much about quail as I do about theoretical physics. I can handle chickens, but these popcorn-sized poofballs are something very new to me
But I adore them!
I do intend to let them forage outdoors in a huge, covered run, but why can't they be with chickens at all? And can they share the same large coop?
First...unless you have a run that is entirely 1/2 inch hardware cloth they probably wont survive very long.
Second....Chickens are CARRIERS of diseases that quail have NO RESISTANCE to and will frequently die from ( hence the quail wars comments...we have had MANY heated discussions on here about this. Seems the rule of thumb with chickens/quail contact is ...keep species at least 50 yards apart and use careful biosecurity procedures ( careful hands,clothes,feet/shoes sanitation,no cross contamination, handle quail before chickens, no co-habitation, etc....)
Third...Quail and Chicken do NOT have the same dietary requirements.Quail NEED 28-30% protein gamebird crumbles from hatch to death . UNMEDICATED.
i THINK i've covered it all.
