1st time we lost one to a night predator

Trying to identify what got 2 of our chickens....almost looks like a huge cat as tall as the trap it won't go into!! trap is 16" high..

A neighbor lost 5 chickens last night, all had heads taken off and left laying in the yard..what predator does this?

A friend of mine lost 9 rabbits recently, some were decapitated, some had bites to the head, only a couple had been eaten on, Turned out to be a big bore racoon. He used a live trap baited with sardines to catch it, then dispatched it.

Those look like two different cats to me - different fur color, different size, different build.


Which makes me think your bait is drawing them in, and they may not be what you've actually had problems with.

Looks like a big house cat. Might not be what got your chickens. Here's a picture of a bobcat. It doesn't look the same.

neighbors are losing chickens also, sometimes up to 5 a night...some are saying they've seen a cougar or small mountain lion..we're setting a more serious trap near the live trap over the weekend to see what we catch..
