2 1/2 week old chick passing blood lethargic is tetracylcine correct????

SO, here's the latest in the chick saga.

I called two local vets. The first said--surprise, surprise!--that it sounded like coccidiosis and to go to feed store to get Corid. (I told them I'd already called 3 feed stores and they supposedly don't sell it.) They also referred me to another vet, so I went there and got a stool sample. They said NO signs of cocci or bacteria or anything else (these were samples from healthy chicks--although one has been having diarrhea). Vet said to hold off on Corid since cocci isn't not showing up in their stool, but to monitor closely. He said I can finish the course of antibiotics or just take them off it.

I completely sanitized the brooder and all equipment in there with bleach solution (although I read online only ammonia kills cocci).

In other words, I guess we don't know what killed the second chick but it certainly sounds like it was cocci. The first one was only a couple of days old, so that was probably bad luck?

I hope this story helps other newbies. It's certainly given me some insight into the importance of a local vet and not just relying on feed store employees, no matter how much experience they say they have. It also seems that coccidiosis treatment is very poorly understood at pet feed stores in my area. Not ONE recommended Corid.

Thanks again. Without this forum I wouldn't have had any outside insight. I'm really grateful for all your help!
