OMG! You people are so creative and talented! I'll be embarrassed to show my little shipping box coop.
And Hunterjumper, I love your little blue pitty!
Ours isn't the prettiest but we like it and it gives us lots of room. My husband had a trailer out behind the barn that he just cleaned out, added roosts, nesting boxes, doors and small window w/ ramp. And voila...insta-coop! The only money that went into it was for the pine shavings on the floor and chicken feed.
I've been gone for a while and look how much the thread has grown. WOW it shows the level of creativity and inspiration people have . You all deserve hi fives.
I'm starting out with a prebuilt coop (just got 3 chicks this past month). But I"m always looking at coop ideas for when the "premade" falls apart. I'm all for "creative" coops! I ***LOVE*** the coops in this thread! My favorites are the swingset ones... why did that never occur to me?! I think the crossection of the wooden boat coop is the most unusual coop idea I've seen so far... I've been browsing coops for 18mo.
We made ours out of our old bathroom doube-sink cabinet. Put a hinged lid on top for easy cleaning and a door on front for chicken access. It probably wont last too long even though i painted it, but it will get us by until we can figure out something else. Fits 3 girls really well. Next, we'll probably convert the play structure my kids rarely use...
