2 chickens dead

I took my last buff orpington (since those are the two that died) into the vet yesterday to be checked. She is 100% healthy. The vet is as surprised as we are that we are losing chickens. She said that sometimes you might lose 1 for no reason, but to lose two in a week is not normal. She told to buy a game camera, so we did, and we will install it when it comes in. I am hoping it is not our back neighbor poisoning them. He's never seemed to have an issue, but he also cuts our trees without asking, and other weird things like that.

Glad to hear you buff got a clean bill of health. Did she take a poop sample?

I wonder if your neighbor is putting out rat or gopher poison that either got carried into your yard or the chickens ate a poisoned rodent.

I like the game cam idea.

No - there is nothing in their poop - my chicken even pooped for the vet - it was totally normal.

Not really. I have fly predators and a fly trap. Being in New Mexico, we have very few bugs because it is so dry. We can actually sit outside in the evenings without getting bitten by anything throughout the summer.

We want to see what they are doing during the day - are they eating rodents? Is my neighbor throwing things over the back fence? That is what we need to find out. I actually checked the ground by the fence this morning before I even let them out of their coop. I don't want to lose anymore.

I lived in NW NM for over 30 years. It's a great place for chickens! And horses! But I am not going to complain, I have been blessed since moving here to SE MO, too!

Oh mercy! I hope nothing like that is happening! A neighbor doing something like that on purpose, I mean! I hope you get to the bottom of this!

Im intwrested to see what caused this myself. We had something similiar happen toward the end of winter this year. Our birds were of a similiar age at that time.
