2 chickens in a shed. the saga of beep beep and sarah

you will need vents up high away from the chickens so they can't get a cold draft. especially in the winter. You'll want the humidity to escape but no drafts on the chickens. Chicken wire is not good for predators, they will tear that apart. That is, IF you have predators. Raccoons, dogs, fox, etc. it is good for the top of the run to keep hawks away. plywood would start buckeling if it gets too much water. I'd build the whole frame with the pallet wood, and use the plywood inside. Remember, they have to have it made for those cold winter months in case it drops below single digits or below zero.

this was just so we cold get them out of the shed.

it was windy as hell last night and rained like crazy. coop held together failry well. will check it more as the day goes on. heat lamps didnt short out, chickens are still alive and there food, bed and bedding is dry.

if it gets to cold, they will be back in the shed.

Your doing fine. Just keep everything dry as possible. Good luck on your coop.

Its been a few days and there doing good. I feed them there feed, greens, grape tomatoes, some seeds and leftovers. I've been reading about what to feed and not feed. lol. doing this on the cheap so its all diy.

Main box measures 8x4x4. ithas plywood on 1 side, pallet on the back and a fence on the other acting as a wall and support for cross post. The box has plywood on top as a roof and is working well so far. a huge tarp covers the main box on 3 sides with rocks and lumber holding it down on top bottom and sides. Holds well. Little water gets in at the very front but they are in the back and fine. They have a 4 foot drawer(the base is a old carpenters shed thing) in the back with pine in the box with 2 heat lamps. 1 on each side. They are growing well i think.

I'm going to ad a main support thru the middle with a truss on both ends.

I added a board with a hanging basket im going to put greens in for them to pick on.

my main concern is there comfort and saftey to be honest. we got 2 dogs next door who busted thru our fence today also. went for the cat instead of the chickens so i guess thats a good thing.

anyway, ill update when i get this stuff done. have some wood to add side supports which ill do tomorrow or this weekend. have big plans. would like to slowly convert the 8x4x4 in a shingled house. we will be getting more chickens. and ducks. we already have the duck ponds. free of CL along with every other bit of material I have.

vegetables are good and all but don't feed them potatoes. Not good for them. If your neighbors dogs broke through the fence, I'd make sure they can't dig under your coop or have any way of getting in. Chicken wire holds chickens in but won't keep predators out. That is, if you are using it. Build it as though wolves are hanging around your yard, just waiting. Even raccoons can pull parts of chickens through a chain link fence. so I'd us the 1/2 " hardware wire for safety and under ground. Better safe than sorry. Good luck with your chickens.

Chicken wire is all we got right now. will get more supplies as funds or CL allow. lol

i read its the green part of the peel thats bad. is it the whole potato?

what about radishes?

Hi and welcome
Hey.

Kelsie gave you a great chart to follow. as for radishes, I'm not sure, I never gave mine any. Just don't give them any bread with garlic in it. It will ruin the taste of the eggs.
You will have to protect your chickens from your neighbors dogs if they get out again. So I'd recommend a stronger barrier as soon as possible when you aren't around.
