2 Crazies setting Buckeye eggs today--anyone want to join?

Tell her to STAY OUT OF YOUR BASEMENT. Thank you.

So I candled and threw out 2/3 of my Jap eggs. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of this. Its not all the same roo, some of each roo's eggs were good, some bad. I'm going to pay more attention to the count on the next hatch and see if I can figure out what is going on. On my buckeyes, I ended up with 33 eggs, 2 have blood rings and 2 were clear. The two clear I checked for fertility and they were not.

I just wanted to check in and see how it's going with your incubation. My final count ended up being 9. 1 didn't make it, it was the last one to hatch and I helped and I just don't think it was ready. The rest are doing great though, growing like little weeds! My 2 bantam and 1 LF buckeye pullets are finally laying again and I am thinking about incubating their eggs. I can't put them in till after this weekend though with the storm coming I don't want to take a chance on losing power.

Hi Sarah,

Sometimes those ones that need to be helped are weak and don't make it, don't feel too badly about it. And I too am waiting to put eggs in the 'bator until after the storm passes this weekend. After the big ice storm we had here in KY last year at this time, I thought it prudent to wait. Here are pics from what it was like here last year:

Do we all three go in the hatcher tommorow? I know it will be day 18 for me and due Friday.Chipper said he is on day 10 with the buckeyes he got from me and candled the 22 eggs and 20 are developing so looks like he will be right behind us with a great hatch.I have 8 developing from my buckeye hatch from Laura and I will candle again as I put them in the hatcher tommorow.

Yup, James, I think it is tomorrow. I am at work, and when I get home I will check my calendar.

James, what do you hatch in? I am thinking of leaving these eggs in the Sportsman to hatch, instead of moving them out into the HovaBator hatcher. What do ya think?

I will do my final candling tonight or tomorrow, when we go on lockdown. I did not remove any eggs from the bator, waiting for lockdown. I could crack open the nondevelopers, and take pictures, if that would help anyone out. I usually crack them into a small clear glass pudding dish, so I can see under it too.

My Dickie Incubator has a hatcher in the bottom and I always just use it.I never even bother with bumping the humidity up.I have misted marans eggs as they seem to be a little tuffer but I just let it ride and usually have very good results.Did you ever say how many eggs were developing from the buckeye eggs.Chipper has 20 of 22 .

I know mine go in Thursday, looks like a fair hatch. I broke out all the eggs I collected today I had 7 out of 8 firzzled Japanese and 8 out of 9 buckeyes fertile. Always a holdout!

James and the P.O. have been very good to me.Out of the 22 eggs, from James, that went into the bator I only candled 2 clears and 1 that quit early on.
I honestly did not think the results would be this good with eggs shipped from Georgia to upstate N.Y. and it was 10* outside the day they arrived.

Anyway,I hope everyone has a great hatch and I will be right behind you.

That is wonderful news, Chipper!

I am sure the Pony Express does have alot to do with problems hatching, and they are the only mail service that comes from Georgia to Missouri! Always takes a day longer to get here, than other destinations. Speckledhen noted that in her shipments to me and others in MO.
