The eggs are a light bluish green. They are so tiny.

You should try to make an incubator. There are great instruction on the incubating section here. It is so much fun and I have found that my homemade incubators are more reliable then any LG or Bator I have ever had.

Awww I bet they are precious! I have an EE who lays tiny blue eggs. I love them. They are all yolk.

Electronics make my eyes cross, really. Yesterday I PAID my son to hook up the gamespy cam. He will work extra chores for $ as he gets no allowance (I gotta work for it, he has to work for it!)
And he wrote me up a paper that says "How to use an IPOD for Dummies" So kind of him. But I have had it a year and a half and never used it because I don't want to have to figure it out. All those circles and buttons ect...

However--what directions did you follow to make yours?

I used the cooler instructions. There are actually 2 I liked so I morphed them into what I wanted. I am going to attempt the cabinet incubator...with the help of my DBF. I am electronically challenged too. He does the electronic part and I do the hatching part.

Germaine,
You know we are missing a couple more Hatch Aholics here ...
Where is The Warden, and Mahonri? Huh?

I feel sure they will want to join in, don't you? And, Yard Full of it ... he set eggs, too!

After much thought, though James was at the ready to send me some eggs, I decided that I didn't have room for a new breed right now if I wanted to improve my Rocks. Four of my five BR ladies are getting on up in age and Dutch may find himself living elsewhere since he has decided that I am personally the cause of all his problems, so wanted to get a few better quality ones if I was going to go to the trouble of incubating. I'm doing a small fertility test for another BYCer whose Rocks are beautiful, from show type lines. I'm finding that I have to make adjustments as we get less able to do alot of physical work, though I sure don't plan to actually stop anytime soon--if you quit moving, you turn to stone!

So you guys are at it again! I was waiting for a thread like this!! Bators full. Got a hatch on Feb 2 and Feb 9. Ya I know staggered hatch! I'm getting my LS line going. Pretty excited. After seeing those gorgeous Buckeyes I sure wish I had more room to add another breed but alas... I see spring building projects in my future! Good Luck to everyone! I'll be watching & cheering!!

I love the fact that the Buckeyes are a heritage bird, but my main reason was for cross breeding to get meaties. Now that I have seen the quality of them I will keep them as pure heritage and also use a few for the cross breeding. Why not make the best use from them?

And the size of the eggs says KEEPERS! I know these Buckeyes are going to excellent foragers because as soon as the other ones I have hatched (and mean as soon as!) they were pecking around and picking up anything different. And try to catch those babies! They are fast. The bugs and grasshoppers here have met their match!

Buck Creek, I am really excited to see your chicks, especially the jubilee. Orps are such big beautiful birds and with a jubilee of colors--splendid.

Speckled Hen, you're right there about keeping moving! And the chickens sure help out with that. No slacking when they are part of it! Tote that water, heft that 50 lb feed bag... wash, rake and CATCH! Ha, catch... I have to share that my Gander decided to challenge me and wouldn't back down. I had to chase him around the yard for 20 minutes before HE tired out. So I grabbed him, hugged him and well...yes I did yell at him. (He is the worst at trying to peck me) then I took LadyHawks daughters idea and swabbed his head in a puddle before I put him down. He probably loved the puddle but it made me feel better. He has been good the last few days!!
