2 Crazies setting Buckeye eggs today--anyone want to join?

I will join you for the next few days as my Buckeye's are due on 1/28, then I will cheer the rest of you on. Though if I had my way I would just go ahead and order another dozen. I must stop though because I am running out of room in my brooder. I have so much building to do this spring, I don't even know where to start. We want to raise some turkeys for meat and I have been lurking on the duck thread and the babies are sooooo cute

Oh yes ... stay away from the duck threads! They really are just toooo cute.

I am on day 19 with my Silkies. 2 days til hatch!

I can't wait until spring ... I need my pens done yesterday!

I got alot done today, in the breeder barn. DH is home, so that helps, alot! We finished one whole side. So, we are half way there! Actually, we also have one end done, so we only have 3 pens left to finish. Then, of course, are the pop doors and runs.

Fortunately we have electricity in the building, so that works quite well. I am so anxious to have this build completed, and excited to move them all in! The part I hate is all the painting. That is all still left to do!

I will definitely post pictures when they hatch. I had to add some water to bring my humidity up last night and went ahead and candled while I had the lid off and they are all swimming around in there and very active.

Kathy you are luck that you can work outside right now. It rained cats and dogs all day here. We even had thunder and lightning this morning. Tomorrow we are supposed to get an inch of snow. I won't be able to get anything done until April unless I want to freeze or get soaked.

Good luck with those silkies!!!

I'm hatching as we speak ... err, as I type! Silkies. These are from my own flock. I am hatching them for a girl I work with. Soooooooo, none of these will be staying here. I love the ones I have, but don't want any more. Maybe in a year or so I will replace them, but for now ... no more. I have buff ... 4 pullets and 1 roo; white ... 2 pullets and 1 roo; blue ... 2 hens and 1 splash roo. They are all housed together for the winter, so there is likely a mixture of colors coming from this hatch! They live in their own little Silkie Paradise, a quaint little coop I built for them! I gotta say, they are much less messy than the other chickens I have!

I wanted to add to this post that I candled 12 buckeye eggs from my flock that I put in on the tenth of the month and they are 12 for 12 in development.I will have to post pictures of them next week when they hatch. Then Laura's buckeyes will hatch a couple of weeks later so I should have buckeye babies running everywhere early spring.I want to hatch about 100 chicks and then pick out my 10 best hens to add to my flock then sale the others as POL birds for anyone in the area.

Kathy if I end of with 50 roo's I may have to stop going to KFC and have someone process my roo's.I could never do it myself.

My fingers are just itching to candle. It is way too early but the eggs are taunting me!

James that is just fantastic about 12 of 12. I hope mine do that good. Of course being shipped probably not but I can hope.

What breed is responsible for the eyes on the buckeyes? They look Cornish to me. Is it the Asil?
