2 day keet splayed legs + chick just hatched advise

If it is walking normal, I would not tape its legs.

It often only takes a couple of days to cure splay leg in a keet.

Keets can be very protective and caring for each other. Like most birds they imprint easily. When in the brooder I have not seen them to be aggressive at all. That doesn't really happen until later when they make up for their lack of aggression in a big hurry.

People have put a feather duster in the brooder . Little ones like to crawl into the feathers like they would crawl under a hen.

Some species are much more aggressive than others are. I have seen very young chicks square off into their battles. At that age it usually isn't any more than chest bumping.

As far as "pecking at the keet's face", it is not uncommon for little ones to peck at another little one's beak area and pick off and eat any food specks that might be there.
Thank you Thank you! It only took 2 days!
I replace the stuffed animal in the larger box and look for the feather duster.
I wish I could give you multiple Likes. You are helpful and generous with your time to assist.

Just an update, I tried to put them together yesterday and of course remained to watch. I did this as the Mennonite family will put them together. Well the keet went up to the bantam chick and pecked. The keet was cornered a couple of times and the chick pecked the keets head (top) and when the keet put her head in the corner, the chick pecked her back.

I'm going to try to convince them to keep them separate for a time. If unsuccessful, to set up the brooder box with a screen so they have several days or see no touch. I'm going to set it up tomorrow in anticipation. I can let them use the set up for a time.

I'll be giving them to the owners on Thur night: keet 15.5 days, chick 13.5 days. In a week from Thur (they'll be 3 wks) the temps will be 74-80 day and 65 nights. They have no electric, so the home should be warm enough during the day, probably warmer than outside. I'm unsure if they will want to heat the keet/chick in the home during the night. Will they be okay?

I almost don't want to ask, but I will. The night temps for their first week at home will be 60 outside (day mid to high 70s). Should I try to keep them another week? Do I want to have our other bathroom back, cleaned and not need to care for them, yes. Do I want them to survive and thrive, YES!

What a person can get away with when they have a group of chicks big enough to huddle together is not the same as what they can get away with when there is only one or two.

They would need to be fully feathered and probably a month old to survive those temperatures.

You have done everything yoou can do to try to mitigate the circumstances but there is only so much you can do.

Good luck.

That is what I knew, but asked in-case I was in error. If they are not going to supply nighttime heat, then I will keep them another week. They will have a better survival chance at 3-3.5 weeks. We don't really need that bathroom next week anyway. I don't think they will mind as they want the keet/chick to live and if we keep them, less for them to do. I so like the personality of the keet.
Thank you
