I saw these threads - maybe they could help if you hadn’t seen them. I’ve got nothing other than crossed fingers for your little one.

Please can anyone help with this? Why do you think he was born with this ruptured air sac and blood on his beak. It’s so sad and I really want to know if there’s anything I could have done differently. Sadly he died yesterday.

Thank you for your replies though. If it happens again, I will have more Information. I really don’t understand why his skin was filling with air as he suffered no knocks and seems to be born like it. I did help him out the egg but was so so gentle, I barely touched him and he kicked out himself. The yolk sac was all absorbed. His beak was quite bloody though before I started to help him. It looked like the beak itself had blood rather than anything else. Sadly I just think he wasn’t right from the start and I just hate the fact that I didn’t know how to save him.

There may have been nothing you could do. If he hatched that way, then it's very possible it was a developmental issue - the air sacs may have not been "completed" when he hatched. Chickens have 9 air sacs and 2 lungs so there's a lot that can go wrong.
