E. coli is everywhere. Inside your chickens' lower intestines, and inside yours, too. One more thing that can help is to feed fermented feed or give probiotics a few times a week to be sure the good bacteria outnumbers the bad.

Tossing scratch on the ground is okay, but not the regular feed. There's too much opportunity for it to get contaminated.

That's probably the only thing we do is toss feed on the ground of the run to get the chickens inside for the night. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it!
