2 dead, more ill, HELP!

I'm wondering more about Fowl Pox.

In the info posted here: http://www.thepoultrysite.com/publications/6/diseases-of-poultry/195/fowl-pox they show lesions around the vent, too, which seem similar to your birds.

Does the info seem to you to fit your birds' situation?

That was what I suspected: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/832419/2-dead-more-ill-help#post_12189868
here's a list of NPIP labs: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_health/animal_dis_spec/poultry/downloads/labs_app.pdf
I'd call the nearest one and ask if they could test for pox. That is, if I wasn't dealing with an extreme mite infestation which some others have suspected.

Dry pox alone doesn't usually kill them, so I suspect that in addition to pox there is something else, maybe it's pox and mites, maybe it's something else.

Quote: i really hate to burst bubbles, but DE tests have shown it worthless as a wormer/pesticide in chickens. it was shown to cause silicosis in 60 out of 100 chickens when broadcast 50 lbs over 4000 square feet in broiler strain chickens (ive been looking for the link to this, if anyone knows please post it). however, small amounts of DE added to water in broiler strain chicks proved to help with weight gain by about 5%. as far as a wormer, the amount you would have to give to kill internal parasites would *probably* cause dehydration/death in adult chickens, if it didnt cut up their insides causing ulcers and other issues.

i am a firm believer in there is a cure for every illness in nature, but unfortunately DE doesn't appear to be it. you would be better off using tobacco and risking overdose- at least its effective.

Lol. I have no bubble to burst. I agree DE is worthless as a wormer. Some folks feel better using something natural whether it works or not. Some people claim it is effective for external parasite control. I prefer a different method of treatment and always will.

if you remember, about half a year ago you and i "butted heads" on my belief in there is a cure for everything in nature (i believe it was over acv and yogurt). i like to be organic when i can - but if it doesnt work why waste money on it? some things work, some dont - sometimes modern medicine is better, sometimes organics are better. ive said it 100's of times - ive spent a fortune sifting through the bull crap in the chicken world - and im still sifting. LOL

Ditto on the DE, waste of money, IMO.

Michael Apple, and speckled hen - this goes for you too. (but im sure you already know that)
