hi as the title says one of my ducks was killed by a fox. well I presume it was killed. I saw the fox biting the ducks neck. I sent my shepherds after it and the fox dropped the duck. the injured duck ran off into the swamp and hasn't been seen in two days. (I looked everywhere) my two grew up together and now the single duck wanders aimlessly. my question is should I buy duckling to get the duck a new friend? will they get along and become a pair like the other two once were? any other suggestions would also be appreciated. thanks in advance

Why a duckling ? Just get another (fully grown) duck. You can’t put a duckling in with a duck unless she’s broody.

thank you for the reply. thats good to know. if I get another fully grown duck, is it in their instincts to pair up? will they become friends? I don't want to get another and have two go off on their own everyday. I guess I'm looking for someone to say the same thing happened to me and this is what I did and this is how it worked out.

Duck or drake ? Drake’s will form life long bonds with their ducks. If you get a duck they will form a good bond too but they’re might be a few rows When they’re getting fed. If you do get a drake I would advise you to get another duck as well so that the one you have doesn’t get too much ‘attention’

ok thanks for the advice. I already had a rooster that gave all the chickens and ducks too much 'attention'. ill try to find another duck and see what happens.

If you get a duckling, you would just need for it to grow. And, you should get more than one duckling. You can have them in a look but don't touch pen or area.
As well, with a new adult duck, you would still want to do introductions for a few days before throwing them in together. And that too can be done through a look but don't touch set up.
