2 embryo in 1 egg? Please look at picture

Rupturing is when the tender skin around the umbilical attachment above what was the yolk sack breaks open. The longer the baby goes without stress on that area, the better it thickens and seals.

Today I was moving newly hatched chicks out of the hatcher to the brooder. I always wait until the last zipped chick has hatched. Even then, I may have to help a shrink wrapped baby or two, but this time I have a baby chick that hatched with the entire yolk sack on the outside. The tender sack broke as the chick struggled to move around the hatcher. I tied a thread around the umbilical opening to contain what yolk had been absorbed inside its belly. A drop of Nutridrench and in the ICU the baby is resting. An ICU is a styrofoam incubator warmed and ready for late hatch or weak babies to be watched and nurtured. I line the ICU with a recycled section of sweat pant fabric soft side up...easy to change out, rinse and launder...like old fashioned diapers.

I was looking at the picture. Is that un-absorbed egg yolk sack? Or is it like an umbilical hernia? If it's the later, yeah, I agree, careful handling until that umbilicus can heal. Watch for infection. Maybe a light coating of antibiotic ointment without pain control to keep the area moist and promote healing. Same if it is yolk sack that hasn't absorbed. Keep it moist watch for infection.

I remember a sign hanging in the OSF St Francis Hospital Preemie unit where I took my OB/GYN training. It read "I'm little, but I'm mighty!"

Rock on little duck!

Because 1 early duckling isn't enough, now I have 2 the bator was making noise so I opened it to find that another duck zipped on out and looks far worse than the first one :(
My nerves are shot.. I don't understand why this one came so quickly..

You are so right. I wouldn't but it would be more out of respect. Birds in the wild deserve distance. It amazes me those huge birds can lift up and fly. Imagine the strength.

I know Lucy didn't intentionally trespass the geese. I heard from someone once they got wing wacked by a retaliatory goose and it was painful. I'd be petrified of their human tongues.
i have heard of bones being broken by geese

update on them??

Good morning, well maybe my nerves got the best of me last night, both babies are doing wonderful, #1's tummy has a small red looking spot and #2 whose tummy totally freaked me out was COMPLETELY fine 2 hours later, you could not even see a red spot?? I was completely shocked..And felt a little silly for freaking out. I'm starting to wonder if maybe these are wild Mallards verses 1 mine laid. I'm waiting for TWRA to come out (said they'd be here by 9) to check them out and permit me to have them. They are extra skidish so I can not be hands on with these 2 :( if they are. I'm on the fence on this one. The beak size says calls but the behavior says wild.. guess I will know more when they get here..So far all is well with them let's pray they are not wild Mallards because the handling and treatment it way different and they stay on your butt with updated information plus have to be registered.. Prayers for calls lol I am too sick to rehab them :(
