2 hens sharing a nest?

I have some birds that do the same thing.

What are you using for bedding?
Interesting nest...what is the pipe on the left side for? Is there a door to the nest that you pull down at times? Kinda looks like it has something extra there.
Thanx.

I had three competing for the same spot this morning. Yes, there were empty nests to one side. Silly chickens. They were actually trying to stand on each others' heads.

Cool! Thanx. I guess the Spanish Moss thing is a Florida/southern states thing? Looks a lot better than straw and pine shavings that is common around where I live, and what I use. But the moss sure looks a lot better. Maybe a craft store would have that around here.
The coop looks good too. So those round things are vents for air. Nice design.

I use spanish moss in my nest boxes. Here is an old picture of the nest boxes in that coop.

) Do I just leave her be and let mother nature work its course or what?? I informed my neighbor, we put some food and water nearby too. I dont want to disturb her, and she is sitting CONSTANLY... WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WHEN THEY HATCH?? I dont want the babies to stray away from nest or mommy- being uncontained... will they be o.k.? Will cats eat them if they arent protected with a coop? CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT WITH SOME ADVICE PLLLLLEEEAASSE?

Yes, cats will get new chicks for sure. My cats don't mess with my adult chickens but they are always VERY interested in chicks. If the hen is your neighbors, I'd have the neighbor come and get her and let her sit on her eggs in a secure place on his property, preferably a broody house. Good luck!

yes because if a chicken sees eggs in a nest of another hen the hen lays in it to that is the way with my 2 cochins one is gray and the other one is black and laying on eggs from a orpington Rooster

Several years ago I had a couple of game hens that shared a nest. They always were together and they went broody together sitting on the nest at the same time. They would hatch out a good size flock of chicks and then proceed to raise them together. The chicks ran back and forth treating both as Mama. They did this every year raising 2 or 3 clutches a year. They both would attack when they felt threatened. I had a large flock but they stuck with each other.
