It’s heavily raining and thundering where I live right now and it is supposed to continue all night. My two 8 week old ducks are in their run for the night and just standing in the rain and not going in their coop. Are they waterproof enough yet to be okay or should I lock them in their coop for the night? I know most ducks love the rain but I don’t want them to get too cold when the rain doesn’t stop.
Thanks

Hi Francine,
I would just look at it as how they would have to handle it as if they were dealing with it in the wild. If Mom was taking care of them they might definitely be in the water some but under her wing maybe and she would be trying to keep their heads as dry as they wanted to be but they have free mobility. I don’t know much about ducks other than what I have seen of them in the wild. I have seen a good bit of geese. We have Canadian Geese where I live near a park there is quite a bit and we have a creek where there is quite a bit. It’s rural. There is lots of traffic this time of the year of birds. I think unless you see them shivering they should be fine. It’s probably been so hot that they are okay. I don’t know where you live but I am in Mississippi and our real feel and 10 pm was 85 degrees I believe. I hope this helps. I have a fan blowing on my 9 seven week old chickens on my screened in porch. I took out their roost bar because they were fighting over it too much and they are all sleeping on top of one another like the little babies they still are. They are getting big and awkward looking but still stinking cute. I just hope nothing happens to them. Good luck with your ducks. I know how much they mean to you. You worry worry worry. Then you worry some more.
Pam
