First off, let me say, this is the first time I am submitting to this forum so please bare with any mistake I might have made.
I got 2 birds from a farm store (Hawthorne if you are wondering.) There were 4 pens I believe with about 10-15 turkeys each. The breed I picked was a black spanish. I somehow got 1 tom, and I am pretty sure the other is a hen. Anyway I've noticed a problem I have NEVER had raising turkeys for 2 years. I only had 3 in that time span and two were broad breasted so they didn't last long (dinner). The tom is having watery poop, no white at all, but it wasn't complete water. I sat out there and watched and noticed it was him. He is also sleeping pretty much always when he isn't eating or walking around with the hen. Whenever he sleeps the hen does also sleep, or at least lie down though. Right before I left he jumped up onto the perch I made and he pooped what looked like pure water.
Now, I am not sure, but could part of it have been his diet? He is eating, but not as interested as the hen. This morning around 9:00 I went into the pen and set my water bottle on the ground. They came over and started trying to drink it, that is when I figured out they haven't seen there water, so I showed it to them. I forgot that they were drinking from those nipple buckets and they hadn't drank since 4:00 last night. He went over to the water and drank for about 5-10 minutes straight. They together drank about a 6th of the total water that was in a chick water bucket/dispenser. It's 3 now and it is a little more than half way finished. I also fed them a slice of water melon which they liked. Keep in mind they are pretty small, they are a little larger than my sisters chickens that are the same age.
So could this have been just a case of them drinking to much? Should I put him on any antibiotics? Maybe the **** store could give me a sort of refund, but I would rather not go through the trouble of doing that and help the bird myself, I have also never had a tom and I would like to keep the little guy. If he gets worse tomorrow I am not sure what I should do.
