2 month old welsummer pullet sick, is it mareks?

So I just called and basically they told me not to expect preliminary results for 3 to 5 days. But the receptionist I talked to went in the file and it was noted as undetermined. She said I should get an email back within 1 to 2 weeks for the final results After testing comes back. She did tell me that everything was noted as looking normal except maybe that the sciatic nerve was a little bit swollen....

What does this mean as far as our suspected illnesses?
My first guess would be Marek's. FWIW, I send the majority mine to Tulare because that's what my avian vet recommended, but I have also sent some to Turlock. The Tulare lab has a top notch avian pathologist there, he's one I really like. Read about him here:

Yeah that's what I thought too. Any nerve involvement definitely lends to Marek's. Though I'm so surprised that nothing else was found, If it is mareks.

Thanks for the information I'll definitely send it to Tulare next time, I hope there's not a next time. Though if this is mareks what does that mean for the rest of my flock? Are they all silent carriers? Can they still die from mareks like this chicken? Also, I called the breeders I got my chicks from and found out that one batch was no vaccinated (apparently he thought I requested they not be vax), why did they not get it? I have so many questions, where did it come from, why was she the only one affected, how did she live so long with mareks without more evidence of the disease- Only the sciatic nerve "may have been a bit swollen" (the receptionists interpretation).

So many things don't add up that it is does not make sense to be mareks... It bothers me not knowing lol and I am gettin ahead of myself and have to wait the 1-2 weeks to find out....

Also I think if this happens again, or for anybody that's wondering, I am going to send my birds to Turlock. Turlock apparently deals primarily with birds and poultry whereas Davis is everything and they have a high-volume and things just take longer. This is what the receptionist told me today....
I've been following this thread for Flossie. Turlock, tks. If I need to ship a bird I'll send to Turlock. So sorry you have to wait so long.

God forbid you have another, but if you do, send it attn the doctor above, he's very thorough and always willing to go over results on the phone.

Casportpony actually recommends Tulare from experience :)

The only thing our avian vet said was, our Ameraucan, Arabelle's, problem was in her brain her nerve. So it may have been some kind of nerve problem as you mentioned, but we will wait to see what they say about Flossie.

Have you had a chance to look at this article yet? https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-great-big-giant-mareks-disease-faq
It might answer some of your questions. If not, let (us) know and we can try to help. This disease is not very straightforward!

Kathy, does Davis run PCR testing for Marek's if they suspect it, do you know? Or only if requested by the client?
