I am beside myself. My DH is gone for the weekend hunting, so after I got home from work, I went out to lock the birds up and noticed 3 were missing.
I looked everywhere but it was dark and found nothing.
I went out this morning and found one of my buff comets decapitated and missing a leg with her insides gone.

I am still missing another BC and a LH.
I am assuming a hawk got it because the hawk was out waiting for me to let the birds out this morning, which I did not do.
They are free range, so now it's time for there fall/winter run to go up.
Damn it!!!
I just had to vent. I am so sad to lose those girls. They had just started laying too.

I am so sorry.
But if you didn't find a body there is always a chance they'll find their way home atleast

I am so sorry for your loss. I have had my share of coons and opposums here lately also. Lost a lot of nice hens. I hope you find the lost ones. I had one hide after being attacked and she came home the next day. She didn't make it, but at least she wasn't their dinner after all.

my other 2 girls never came home.

I am so mad this has happened.
My cat has also been missing since the attack.
What could do all this??? A racoon???
I definitely saw a hawk hanging out, probably looking for the remains.

AARRGGHHH!!!! This is so frustrating and sad.

I am so sorry about your hens and your cat. I sure hope you can figure out who's responsible for this. That will help you figure out how to protect the rest of your chickens.

Just wondering if this could be a clue: It's about an inch and a half long and filled with hairish fibers ir grass or something.

It's posting much blurrier than it really is.....hmmmm

Sorry for your loss...I'm no expert but it looks like a coon poop to me...It also sounds like a owl pellet (poop) the way you described the fibery/hair content...
