Maybe there is a cat/chicken thing.

My neighbors cat likes to sleep on top of the coop and the girls don't seem to mind.

My 2 yr old cat like to stalk the girls. But they know he's there and right when he breaks into a run they will all turn around at the same time to face him. Which, of course sends him running in the opposite direction. When the girls turn around the stalking starts all over again.

my cat leapt off the stoop, directly (accidentally) onto a dust bathing/sleeping chicken. The next 10 seconds were very exciting for everyone! That chicken still gives Kitty the stink-eye whenever they run into each other... and poor kitty runs.
