Hi all,

When school shut down due to Covid-19, we took over my son's first grade class's incubation project. For the past month we have been raising two healthy, happy chicks named Camilla and Taco. The students have loved remotely learning about the chicks. Thanks to the members on this amazing site, we have learned that they are both Rhode Island Reds, or possibly Production Reds, and both cockerels.

This was always meant to be a short-term situation, as we live in an apartment in Brooklyn, NY. The fact that these chicks are both cockerels presents a challenge for relocation within the city. Would anyone in the NY/NJ/CT area be interested in adding Camilla and Taco to their flock? The first grade families would be happy to make a donation towards their care. And we could sort out transportation.

Many thanks!

Which one is Taco and which one is Camilla? Also, are you trying to keep them together, or would you let somebody take just one?

Thanks so much for your response! It turns out we just found a home for both T and C at a lovely farm upstate. (That's Taco in the first photo, with the hand in the frame, and Camilla in the second photo.)

Are you absolutely positive that they are Roos?
How old are they? I would wait till they crow to rehire them

They are 4 weeks old. We based our Roo assumption on feedback from the good folks in the Breed/Gender section on this forum. I had been wary of jumping to a conclusion, though cockerel was the unanimous and fairly confident opinion of the other posters. FWIW, their behavior / mannerisms suggests Roo to me.

We're not in a position to keep them much longer due to the nature of our NYC apartment -- this was always meant to be a short-term arrangement necessitated by the closing of the school. But happily we've found a lovely farm upstate that is eager to take them. We've become quite attached to C and T and will be sad to see them go, but we're looking forward to visiting them!
