Hi all
I found this thread to be very interesting reading. We are not allowed to have roosters here and that is OK by me, I do not have a breeding program and my girls are much loved pets who I do not want to see being harassed by a rooster.
I just wanted to add that I agree with EggSighted4Life in that while I have read many times that a rooster will protect his girls which is, of course, a good thing; I have a couple of hens, one in particular who watches over the flock just as well as I believe any rooster would.
She raises the alarm and calls in her flock mates, takes on cats and has badly beaten up a couple of Crows and she is a bantam
