I woke up this morning hearing one of my chicks screaming bloody murder from across the house. I to in there and she is on the floor away from everyone. I pick her up and she is cold and it looks like her innards are falling out. They were bloody and there was blood on her beak.

I did a search on it and found prolapse, but read that it is usually for egg laying age hens. Mine was 2 weeks old.

Within 5 minutes of me finding her she had died. I was right in the middle of searching the board.

My guess is that she had some of her insides come out and she or some of the others started grabbing at it.

Any help? Don't want this to happen again.

Sounds like simple cannibalism to me. Is it too hot or too crowded in the brooder? That can cause it. They will peck each other to death for simple reasons like a piece of poop they start on then see blood and it progresses.

They have a large brooder, tons of room to spread out.

It's maybe 3.5-4 feet long by abou 16 inches wide and there were 12 silkies and a mutt baby all 2 weeks old.

The heat lamp is on one side in the corner, food is in middle and the water is on the cool side.
