We have a 2 year old Dominique with a prolapsed vent we discovered yesterday. It will not stay in. We did the following once today and once yesterday:
• Warm epson salt bath
• Cleaned area
• Treated with Vetericyn Plus
• Added sugar
• Used water-based lubricant
• Attempted to put prolapse back in, but it will not stay
• Sprinkled a little sugar
• Kept her in the basement in a crate with a towel over it and the lights off

Since yesterday she is pooping and laid one healthy looking egg. We suspect necrotic tissue and we are really hoping it is possible to keep working with her. She is our pet, very much loved but we do not want her to suffer. She is very active still. We have tried calling a local vet but would like to avoid a vet trip due to the risks involved. We withheld food for 24 hours and let her eat some of her layer feed and have been supplementing her water.

I like using honey on these, it's mildly antibacterial, keeps it moist and helps shrink the tissue. Most important thing is to not let it dry out. You can also use vaseline. Sometimes you have to hold the prolapse in for a while before it will stay and you may have to do it more than once, some will come back out when they strain or poop.
Some will use a kind of sling to help hold it in, pictures in this thread:
