2 year old goose cannot stand

@casportpony What about this moving her head around like something is bothering her? could that be a sign of gape worm? Surely if she had something stuck in there she wouldn't be able to eat like OP says she does?

If it is gape worm will the safeguard wormer take care of it?
Can worms in general weaken their legs to this degree?

She has been on Metacam (anti inflammation med) for a week now prescribed by the vet. The vet wants to do an X-ray next before she prescribes anything else. I know there are no broken bones though.

What did the vet say about what you describe she is doing with moving her head around like it's bothering her?
@casportpony can answer about the safe guard.

I didn't think about telling the vet about the headshaking until I saw her doing it a few days after we saw her. She will not do it if she knows you are watching and seems to do it when she is getting settled in to take a nap. I did sneak a video of her doing it(can't get it to upload to this site) and asked the vet if I sent it to her in an email would she look at it and see if it might be something. The person who answered the phone said that "no" they could not diagnose unless they saw the animal in the office. Kinda makes me mad but I guess they have their reasons, gotta have those office visits to keep the doors open.

Send the email to them and ask them to have the vet call you. Any vet I have used would watch the video and offer an opinion if they had already seen the bird.

I have seen coccidiosis, capillary worms or bacterial infections make birds unable to walk. Capillary worms can also damage the esophagus and crop.

If she has gapes or capillary worms the Safeguard given at 0.23ml per pound for five days will treat both.

Yes I did see the vet do a real good physical examination. I feel she did all she could for a first visit. She was confident it was a pain issue in her left knee or hip and that the Metacam would do the trick in a few days. The net option is an xray and they need to sedate Lucy in order to do that. The vet did say she didn't think the xray would show anything broken but said that this is what needed to be done before she could do anything else.

I guess I will see how the wormer works over the weekend and go from there.
