On Monday I noticed Poppy was lying down and moving about very little and when she did move it was very uneven. Vet found nothing wrong without extensive and expensive testing. I brought her home with antibiotics.

She can’t really move at all - she’s still eating, and not lethargic or out of it. She was vaccinated for Marek’s and I’ve had her straight from a hatchery.

Anyone have any thoughts ? Thank you!

I’ve just put her out on grass and she is eating and has moved herself about. Still can’t stand though.

I'd try the vitamin B-Complex as well. Give her 1/4 tablet daily.

When was her last egg?
Did your vet perform a fecal float to see is she has worms?

Any chance she ate something rotten, moldy or dead?
Thank you for the Vit B input. Would liquid work or tablets better? She hadn’t laid for 6-8 weeks as she was moulting and then growing her feathers back in. Vet said not egg bound or any obstruction. Decal float not done. Haven’t seen worms and my other two hens seem healthy. Have not seen any dead rodents. There are some old pomegranate skins but very dry here in SoCal so not a lot of mold. But I am doing thorough clean of run to make sure.thank you again.

Molting is sometimes hard on chickens. When I have seen a sick bird in my flock, it has always been during molting or during the coldest winter days. Mareks vaccines are not 100% foolproof. They cannstill develop it if exposed to a carrier. I once had a vaccinated hen who lost the ability to walk without falling backward or to the side for about 5 weeks. She did not have Mareks, but I had to feed her twice a day with mushy wet chicken feed, plain yogurt and egg, and tempt her with some tuna and sprinkle some dry crunmbles. She died 2 years after her recovery, and her necropsy showed internal laying. We never knew for sure what caused her problem. Hopefully, your chicken will recover.

Thank you - Poppy doesn’t seem very interested in food - she has taken some water and I noticed that it seemed to go right through her. Her poop is almost all liquid which is not surprising given that she’s not eating much.,I’ve given antibiotics and Vit B. She is not lethargic, eyes are bright - she just seems bewildered as to why her legs aren’t working. She doesn’t seem in pain. I’ll get her electrolytes tomorrow to help offset lack of food. Thanks for all the help - I hope she recovers.
