I’ve had my chickens for 2 years and I built them this awesome new coop but they all were at the old one even though there is no walls and it looks abandoned. I thought they all would follow the food and water source but they didn’t and I got 10 out of my 11 chickens in the new coop. I can not find the 11th chicken :( did she run away thinking I abandoned her? Please someone help ease my mind I’m so sad.

I'm sorry you lost your chicken. I would've locked the chickens in the coop for a day or two, so they know where they can find food and where they need to sleep. Sometimes they're stubborn so you might have to put them back in the new coop a couple of times.

How old was your chicken? Are they free-ranging?

Chickens return to the location they're familiar with, even if the building is gone. My guess is the missing one is hiding somewhere, confused that "home" is gone - hopefully it'll show up tomorrow morning.

If there's enough space and the weather is pleasant enough to lock them inside for a couple days, that will help home them to the coop.

They are free ranging chickens and they are 3 years old so they definitely know the yard

They may know the yard, but they don't yet know where their new coop is. You should leave them locked in it for a few days so they can adjust their homing instinct. Your missing one probably found a hidey hole for the night. Hopefully she will pop up this morning. She may be yelling for her flockmates and be easy to find.

She’s back home everyone!!! I’m so happy!! I’ll make sure to go out there earlier and catch her to show her where home is now. Thanks for all the advice I really appreciate it
