With it dropping into the -20*F wind chill tonight should I do anything special?
So far this winter I took the regular device and created a nice tight coop with lots of deep litter and plenty of rafter ventilation. I had one small ambient heat panel in case anyone got overly cold, but other wise left them alone. Rooster already has frostbit comb, but won't let me fool with him anymore to but vaseline on.
I went ahead and highly secured the heat lamp last night because it is just so dang cold now, in the negatives. With the lamp on its about 20* in there. We aren't getting the heavy snow here, just the bitter cold winds. There isn't much danger of power outage at this point.
But now my kids are begging me to bring them in to the basement in the dog kennel for the next couple nights but I'm worried that will cause more stress than the freezing cold. What should I do?
I have 5 fairly big 6 month pullets and one 6 month rooster.
