With it dropping into the -20*F wind chill tonight should I do anything special?
So far this winter I took the regular device and created a nice tight coop with lots of deep litter and plenty of rafter ventilation. I had one small ambient heat panel in case anyone got overly cold, but other wise left them alone. Rooster already has frostbit comb, but won't let me fool with him anymore to but vaseline on.
I went ahead and highly secured the heat lamp last night because it is just so dang cold now, in the negatives. With the lamp on its about 20* in there. We aren't getting the heavy snow here, just the bitter cold winds. There isn't much danger of power outage at this point.
But now my kids are begging me to bring them in to the basement in the dog kennel for the next couple nights but I'm worried that will cause more stress than the freezing cold. What should I do?
I have 5 fairly big 6 month pullets and one 6 month rooster.

@The Phantom I'll see how they do tonight and if they seem in regular spirits tomorrow. I mostly posted this so I can show the kids that yes, they should be fine :) I'm going out to check on them again right now. I mostly worry about the one dang hen who insists on flying up into the breezy rafters to roost by herself at night, but what can I do about it at this point lol.

They will be fine. Windchill means absolutely nothing if they are out of the wind. The heaters aren’t necessary either.

We're getting down to -22 F in a few nights. Wind chill only counts if they sleep in the open outside. I changed out the pine shavings today as it was long overdue and temps were up in teens so not too bad to work in.

Everyone seems fine, you guys are right :) I do have the heatlamp in there until Monday when the temp should jump to positives, but like I said, its staying around 20*F with the lamp so it seems like that is a good solution for now. I'm glad I didn't bring them into the basement, that would have been a hassle ;)
