  1. I think so. If he was constipated from drinking less water, then i imagine that could cause prolapse. What I’ve read so far if you give a small amount of coconut oil and run a little Preparation H on the vent.

Do you have any electrolytes you could add to his water? Or even honey or molasses? That would help as well to restore some balance back into his system. Scrambled or boiled eggs are something else I’ve read is good for sick, injured or weak chickens.

just found this so glad he is eating and drinking, im not sure about the vent though. As for your mom I would be pissed! Not because she protected herself (even though it sounds as if it was a bit excessive) because I know someone who all most lost their leg from an infection brought on by a rooster attack but for them to just abandon him like that?! What in the world!! My mom would have called me crying the moment she realized he wasn't getting back up. How awful :(

Would it help? Or would it off-balance things in a different direction?
Chicken food plus water is supposed to have everything a chicken needs, and he has been getting both of those.

Sick or injured chickens sometimes need a boost just like when we are sick or injured we will up our vitamins and minerals. Even when it is really hot out i give our birds a supplement in their water.

okay, so: i had to give him another bath because he got poop on himself again and this started to stick out of his vent. i wasn’t sure if it was his testicles making a surprise visit or something i should be worried about???
It looks like he might have a mild prolapse. It is pretty common in laying hens but I have not heard of it in a cockerel. In hens, it’s treated by soaking the area in Epsom salts, applying hemorrhoid cream, cortisone cream, or coconut oil, and gently reinserting. I did find a thread about a rooster with a prolapse...

The worst part of farming is not being able to stop an animal’s suffering or explain what’s happening to them while in recovery. I am sorry this happened. I sincerely hope he comes out the other end a reformed little roo.
Keep in mind, though, that rooster aggression toward any human in the household should not be tolerated. I’m sure you know this, but roosters can do severe damage. If your mom ever has to cross his path in her normal life then he needs to be good to her too. As bad as you feel now for him imagine how bad you would feel if he sliced open your mom’s leg or tore her artery? This is not an exaggeration of rooster ability. You can be angry with her right now, but moms come before chickens.
You’re a wonderful nurse to him. My heart goes out to you. Good luck, foghorn!

I know someone who all most lost their leg to infection from a rooster attack. Nasty little buggers for sure. I wouldn't be pissed at all for my mom defending herself but for a mom to injure him that badly and then cover him with a branch and just leave him there essentially to die without even letting her daughter know is completely barbaric!

Looks like a mild prolapse most likely due to reduced fluid intake. You can put some honey or Preparation H on it. Keep a close eye on him making sure he can still eliminate. I would up his fluid intake. You can boost him a bit with some raw honey, electrolytes, and acv. Poor kid can't catch a break :hmm
