I agree with RainbowHen. I have hit my rooster (accidentily) in the face and he was out of it for a bit. Just quarantine him for a few days, and if you can, (he is tame enough) try to dip his beak in the feed/ water. If he doesn't get better, sadly, I would suggest culling him, because no animal deserves to suffer!

He died yesterday.

FFS he was a much loved PET. Would you eat your cat or dog?

Do you kill and eat everything that moves or annoys you? This and your subsequent posts are utterly insensitive to the OP.
No, I don't kill and eat everything that annoys me. If I did my brother-in-law would be six feet under long before now. I admit I was tactless. However, any animal that is a danger to my (or to anyone else's) safety goes to freezer camp ASAP. That "much loved pet" attacked the OP's mother. Even a small rooster can hurt you and who, particularly in this day and age, wants to make a trip to the ER? That rooster proved himself to be a menace. The fact he was loved and a pet does not alter that fact one bit.

That’s your opinion, and I respect that. However, I also respect the OP’s opinions. The OP wanted advice to help the cockerel. Not others’ opinions.

You spelled ‘I’m sorry for the tactless response. I hope you feel better after you tried so hard saving him.’ wrong.

Ok, I just choked on my water, lol, so thanks for that lil nugget of humor.

All in favor of moving on to other ways of helping in other threads & letting this go: Raise your hands & say no more...

Thank you for all your condolences at Foghorn’s passing. He was my first loss of the flock ( this was my first time raising chickens ) and I still think it should’ve never happened, but that’s not something that can be changed. I don’t want to keep this thread going anymore after this, but I just wanted to say I saw a lot of bruising when I was giving him a bath the night before he died. When the blow dryer lifted up his feathers, I saw bruises from underneath his chest and going up on his neck. They were older bruises too because they had turned green. So, I do think his injuries were worse than what I had initially thought and they ended up catching up with him.

I had planned on posting a picture of them as soon as I saw them, but discovering his prolapse was of more importance at the time. I still have the pictures of his bruising, but that won’t do much good now.

thanks again for offering advice and trying to help him. he knew we were trying to save him in the end and he was loved, but somethings just aren’t meant to be and his recovery apparently was one of them.
