I never did get my chicks and chickens sprayed down with the Oxine, because I couldn't ever find an effective way of doing it without soaking all of them. This would've been perfect for that! I sure will. I'm not sure if it will spray a fine enough mist, but I'm hopeful that it will. I forwent the Oxine spray too, as I was just wetting down the entire pullet when I sprayed it in her face, and I decided she was traumatized enough as it was.

Very interesting article, thanks. I was just curious, because the pine shavings in my smaller coop tend to get wet easily when it rains and I certainly don't want to go through what Wynette has been dealing with.

Morning, folks! My little girl is still the same, but tonight at 6 p.m. is 48 hrs. since the first dose, so I'm not expecting to see any improvement yet.

I found my Chicken Health Handbook, and it says the tick that spreads this spirochetes virus is found only in the southwest (I'm in Michigan). So, unless these ticks have migrated to my area, which I suppose can definitely happen, then it must have been caused by a mosquito bite.

Hopefully you'll start seeing some improvement soon Wynette. You do have to take into account that this has been going on for quite some time now so I'm sure this lovely bacteria is quite active inside your little hen. It's not like she was sick for a week and then you caught this. I think it's going to take quite a few days to bring this stuff under control with the length of time she's had it. At least it has been identified and the vet knew the correct way to treat it, so hang in there! She's bound to get better.

Yes, I'd thought of the fact that she's been sick for so long and it might take more time for her to get to feeling better. I'm HOPING that by Sunday she's at least eating on her own; the 3-4 daily feedings are so difficult to work into my already full schedule, but I'll keep on doing it as long as she needs me to!
