20-week old pullet sneezing/gaping

What does "ILT" mean? Sorry, I'm fairly good with texting acronyms, but not that one...

Interesting; just read the page. So if I'm reading it correctly, even though she is not experiencing rales or coughing, she COULD have a mild form of ILT, or perhaps I caught it before it progressed?

Giving Tylan water soluble is going to take at least 3-4 days to start seeing improvement. Tylan injectable on the other hand, will give improvement within 24 hours. Vet rx is simply the poultry form or Vicks Vapor Rub. I dont think it will help in this case. Dont be too quick to switch meds as there is a chance of overmedicating, which can kill a bird. Some meds dont mix too well. Stick with the tylan, it is one of the best out there for this. You just need to be patient since you are using water soluble, it is definately not the quickest form of meds. Best of luck to you.

Thanks, Chickenlady. I've used Tylan water soluble in the past, and I do recall it taking a few days before I noticed any improvement. I'm just so worried about this girl, I keep going out to check on her her and I'm probably checking too often.

I'm worried about tomorrow...have to go back to work & won't be able to hand feed her for 8 hrs. I'm going to space out my next feeding to 4 hours, then 6 today, and hopefully, she'll do okay tomorrow.

Tonight at 9 p.m. is 48 hours on the Tylan; I'll switch to half dose tonight & pray I see results tomorrow or Tuesday. Thanks for the encouragement!

I dont use the water soluble only because the treatment time is so long. If you have access to tylan50 injectable (sold for cattle), I would use that in this case. You can get it for $10 at TSC. Your vet should be able to give you the needles to inject.

I wouldn't space out her feedings more right now. You need to get as much water/med mix in her as you can. Water soluble meds only work if enough is taken in. If it were me, I would be giving water/med mix at least every hour. Since she is not taking much in, I would use full dose for one more day.

Like chickenlady said, stick with the Tylan. It is better than the Gallimycin. I used the Gallimycin because that is what the vets prescribed at the time. Definitely post to Dr. Brown and let us all know what the thinks.

THanks all - back out to give more water/Tylan. I'll let you know how we do; holding off on posting to Dr. Brown because she seems to be a tiny bit better...hate to waste his time unless it's really urgent. THANKS!

I would still ask. It's not wasting his time! You really need to know if this is something that is going to make your birds carriers for life or not. ASK HIM!

Thanks, Gumpsgirl; I'll put a post on.

Just got back from the 2nd hourly water/Tylan; could only get 2 syringes full down her (about 2 1/2 tsp.) - she's full! Still sneezing, but the same - no worse. I'm going to be positive and hope that's a good sign!!
