I got 6 chickens in my coop that are about 20 weeks old.
2 RR, 2 Java and 2 Ancona.
From what I have been reading on this form for a long time I would have thought that the first chicken to lay and egg in my coop would be a RR. To my surprize, yesturday I discovered a small white egg in the nesting box.

It has to be one of the Ancona's, other two breeds I have should lay a large brown egg.
None the less, VERY EXCITED to get eggs.

Congrats on your first egg!!!

Now we wait some more, and more and more... for the other 5 to start laying.

Hey- just think at least you didn't have to wait 26 weeks to get the first edible egg. (Only form one of my girls not all) I thought I'd completely given up. LOL.

True...

But tomorrow is 21 weeks and still have only one Ancona laying eggs..
Hopefully the others will get the message soon.. What a bunch of freeloaders... They eat my food live in my shed, but must of forgot to read the fine print about paying RENT..

:)

It will happen when their bodies are ready. Last year I had a pullet that didn't start laying for 11 months. She then laid for 3 months and then went broody.
