Thank you for the ideas and suggestions. Yes, I think the idea of checking with person (#1California Chick) I am making it for would be good, to see if it will work for her. I can also send some extra fabric for the trim if she would like to do it that way. Or if she wants I can attempt to make another one and
for the 12.50.
I love the design but am not fond of the block name Contrary Wife. It came from one of the quilt mags I found awhile back at the senior citizens thrift store, Quick & Easy Quilting Feb 1994. I think they named it that because the colors' they used kind of looked like they couldn't decide which to use
, (you can see the page in the upper right of pic of block I made). I tried to find the mag online but I don't think they are around anymore
. It is a very good mag for nice designs and has a lot of easy ones to do. I wanted to subscribe to it
.
This is my 1st machine sewn block (and only second pieced block so far), so I feel it an honor to make it for someone else
.
My first pieced block is hand sewn and the design and colors were chosen by eldest granddaughter (14 at the time). She picked the design out of a several thousand page encyclopedia of quilt blocks from the library, the pics in there were 1 inch square and hand drawn (go figure). So that Block we defiantly will keep (heirloom
). Here is pic of the Nautilus I hand made for her:
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ytcIlwqKKubKVBR-PwjYFg?feat=directlink . Remember I am new to this. So, it took weeks to gather information, a lot of money. I had to buy my mat/cutter/ruler/27 - 1 yard pieces of different colors of 100% cotton fabric, several different colors 100% cotton hand quilting thread, I did refuse to buy the book (sure am giving it second thoughts now
) and days for me to create it from that little picture, and no idea what size it was to be when done
. Oh, and did I mention - I am new to this! and remember this is for a teen!
. Yes, grandma can be a sucker at times. The Nautilus is a design I do want to do again, it is so unique and fun. And I will need something to go with the one I already made for her
.
Sorry for the long post.
