2009 Texas Chickenstock, 5/23/09 - See My Page for add'l details

Woo hoo! Count us (the hubby and I) in as well, last year was lots of fun!

I like the potluck idea, but will also throw out the suggestion that maybe people could pay a small 'entry fee' which could go towards the cost of the main dish or meat course?

As for chicken swaps, I currently find myself with a bit of an excess and have been thinking of thinning my flock to make room for new projects.

I have a bunch of 1 yr old layers and a few misc fowl that I would be willing to part with for sale or trade. Here is what I have and can bring if anyone is interested:

3 Light Brown Leghorn Hens (excellent layers and pretty)
2 White Leghorn Hens (about 1 year old)
2 Buff Orp Hens (about 1 year old)
1 Gold-laced Wyandotte Hens (about 1 year old)
1 Silver-laced Wyandotte Hen (about 1 year old)
1 Silver-laced Wyandotte Roo (huge but well behaved)
2 Khaki Campbell Drakes (a few months old)
1 Birchen OEGB Roo (he's going to be gorgeous when he gets his full adult plumage, right now he is about 8-10 wks old)
1 Blue OEGB Roo (same age as the Birchen)
1 Splash Modern Game Bantam Roo (about a year old)
1 Buff-laced Polish Hen (about 1 year old)

All are young, healthy, and laying regularly (except the boys, of course.)

Stuff I would be interested in trading for:

Dark egg layers (marans or wellsummers), blue egg layers (Araucanas), Sebastapol Geese, Pilgrim Geese, Guinea Keets, Turkeys (Bourbon reds, Naragansett, Royal Palm), Peafowl, and any chicken or dairy goat supplies (feeders, milking supplies, cheesemaking stuff, etc...)

If anyone is interested in any of the birds I have, just shoot me a PM before the event so I know what to bring.

I now have a Chickenstock page on my BYC pages with most of the information on it.

Please let me know any updates. If you are bringing someone with you (children included), let met know the numbers.

In the food department, it looks like we need some more sides - green salad, beans, potatoe salad, fruit, chips, bread, desserts, etc. ???

What did we decide on the purple poultry exchange ? Yes or no ?

It looks like we are 85% positive we will be making it to our first chickenstock!!!!! Mum is still in CA with her sister (my aunt was in a nearly fatal car accident), but she said she SHOULD be back in time to come!!!!!

So, that would be myself, my mum and my 2 kiddos!!! We should find out mid-week for sure!

purple poultry exchange? Some sort of chicken exchange?

What is this?

I am bringing myself and one other....fried chciken, biscuits, and.... uh....

hmmmmm..... smiling faces! I can't wait!

A Purple Poultry exchange is like a white elephant exchange, except every one brings a wrapped inexpensive poultry related gift. The kids have their own exchange, but the gifts do not have to be poultry related.

It is a lot of fun as you draw and steal gifts.

carla, wish we could make it but we decided to have three trade days this year and our second one is on the 6th and so i need to prepare for it. we've actually asked a state rep to be there this time along with dan since it's getting a little overwhelming. a good thing but scary at the same time.
