2012 ... hype or possibility? NOT A DOOMSDAY RANT!

Seriously people, I really want a wind turbine and a solar water heater. I am using all this doomsday stuff to freak out my husband so I can get them. Quit raining on my parade

Explorer who discovered the Mayan calendar:"Hey look, it only goes up to 2012."

His sidekick:"The world will end! The world will end! THE WORLD WILL END! Everyone! The world will end in 2012!"

The Mayans: "Geez, we just had to start a new one 'cause we ran out of room!"

Yeah, I just want those, anyway, nothing to do with 2012. Be nice to have my own juice, cut the bills down, and have power for at least lights when there's an outage around here. I want a combo of wind and solar, including as much passive solar as I can manage.

Easier said than done, low budget, and some physical impediments. But eventually, if we start small and build up, I think we can do something useful. A small inverter, a car battery, and a small solar panel would be enough for a couple of lamps with CF bulbs, or better still, the multi-LED bulbs for regular light sockets that you can get now.

It doesn't hurt a thing to be prepared for emergencies, there are a multitude of things you hear about on the news just about every day. No matter where you are, there's something that could happen where you are, and occasionally, it will.

Make sure your sump pump is hooked up to the generator! My parents had theirs wired directly into the fuse box.

And then we will find out that the world will actually end on 4024.

nah I was thinking it would end 3 days after we find part II LOL that way somebody could make a movie LOL

Why are so many people are talking about 2012 as the end of the world? That's not even what the Mayan prophecy is about. It's the end of a World Age, and the beginning of a new World Age, much the same as the end of a century, and the beginning of a new one.

It's supposed to be an auspicious time of change, a time when people reflect on their lives and society in general, and examine the way we do things. 2012 marks a time of change, not the end of the world.

here's a link with some interesting info on the subject. http://www.adishakti.org/mayan_end_times_prophecy_12-21-2012.htm

Here's
a quote from this link:

"The recent "2012" movie serves to alert a targeted 140 million people, in case they too haven't already heard the news. Unfortunately, however, the movie does a dis-service because it distorts the message of this ancient prophecy by associating it with fear and destruction, as depicted by the movie's global disaster scenario, rather than the themes of transformation and renewal the prophecy is actually based in."

End quote. There's a lot more that I found interesting, but that kind of the gist in a nutshell.
