2012 London Olympics -- A good buy for horse events?!!?!?

Well maybe we can meet up. London is fun. I've only meandered around a little bit during layovers. I'd like to see more of it. They DO have the most frightening breakfasts known to man, though.

Truth is, I never quite know what my schedule is, I'll be VERY lucky to get there. I've spent the last 30 years hearing, 'Ohhhhh....we've got an emergency requirement....can't you cancel your plans?'(translated as,'if you don't, we'll hire someone who will'). But I will try.

I think it's going to be an interesting dressage contest. Spanish bred horses are starting to win and score well, Totilas will be ridden by a German rider, and the gals who have been winning everything for years are getting to the magic (retirement) age.

When there was talk about the Olympics coming to Chicago, my dressage buddy and I would have gone in 2012, but London got it. As much as I would like to, I doubt I'll go. In all truth, I'd rather see the WEG since "my" sport is there and not at the Olympics. Although I would LOVE to see the dressage freestyles

Isn't that the truth! Beans for breakfast

I will say I loved the fried toast though.

It is definitely hard to plan that far out... It's a bit of a risk but I might just have to take it. I would love to go back, I rode while I was over there last time and it was SO much fun. Nothing like a medieval castle for a backdrop to enhance your riding experience

It will be VERY interesting to see if Totilas' new rider can congure up the same magic that Edward Gal did... It killed me to see his WEG ride and knwo that I could have been there to see it!

It was the fried toast WITH the beans that caused me the worst results, LOL.

But as much Indian food as there is in London, I can probably have idlis and sambar for breakfast! Heaven! I think I'll go!

Beans for breakfast? You mean the same thing the cowboys eat with their flapjacks? Or is it navy beans and ham kind of thing?

I thought they ate like we do, bacon and eggs or jam and scones.

There fairly like 'baked beans' in the US. Then sausages, mashed potatoes, fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, and who knows what else.

Anyhow, I think the riding events will be very exciting. I can't wait.

Camilla is the Duchess of Cornwall, not Princess. It is still being debated if when Charles succeeds the current Queen if she will become Queen, Queen Consort or Princess Consort ((ie no constitutional power). She doesn't seem to have much public support at the moment and the general public don't want her to be Queen.

Sorry for the hijack.

"sorry for the hijack"

The responses actually addressing the topic have been pretty thin so far except for one...LOL.

Thanks! I didn't think it mattered too much to the Queen of England as long she is alive. Even if Prince Charles married again and again like King Henry, all of the wives would be Queens and i am afraid once the Queen pass on, Camilla would have that title. I shudder at the thought of her being a "Princess"....move over Camilla and let Prince William's wife to be, a Princess at her own right. I think Prince Charles is going to live a very long time but a king a short time. Prince William will have the throne for a long time to come. Longetivity seems to run in the family.

Are we expecting more German warmbloods in the events? That seems to be the case in a lot of the events. And I would love to see the Queen and Prince Charles ride again.

The German regional registries (Hannoverian, Westphalian, Holsteiner) always account for a big percentage of the horses from most countries, in Jumping, Dressage and to a lesser degree, in Eventing. I was thinking though, that I expected there to be more Spanish breed horses (Andalusian, Lusitano, Alter Real) in the coming years.
