I don't know about the end of the world and all....but the mayan calanders have predicted eclipses and planetary alignment over the past 5,000 years with stunning accuracy. - also the year 2012 is thought to be the peak/ climax by astrologists of the sun's solar flares. Just like the solar tsunami that lit up the north skies last night - its residuals off solar flares that are hitting our atmosphere and creating the light show if I'm not mistaken.
I don't think it will be the end of the world - but if the solar flares get back in 2012 it could very well be the start of the end - as in death of satelittes and communications. Where the devil would we be if that happened? Our society is ran off phones and internet - I mean
Wal-mart is lost when their program/hard drive for the cash registers shuts down or malfunctions at the store here!
Also there are tons of interpretations of the mayan calander and their meanings for 2012. Some think it means enlightenment/spirtual change of society. One thing though Mayans put alot of stock in birth, death, and renewel and renewing the cycle.
I haven't prepared for 2012, though we do always keep a large emergency duffle bag freshly stocked and atleast 10 gallons of fresh water (2 5 gal bottles) in our pantry, plus 2 propane tanks and tank top heaters - and just freshen up batteries, food, and water every so often but thats for black outs in T-storms, snow storms, and hurricanes.
I'm like this - if it happens it happens, but I don't think theres going to be any one big event to 'mandate the end' on 12/21/12. However if I'm wrong, well i won't be around to say I was wrong 12/22/12 will I? lol
