Whether or not it is a global event I do not know - nor am I freaking out about it - I do have some concerns (mainly economical) about the fall out if satellite, banking & food transport are disrupted - mainly for the majority of people. As for my family - even though we do not have a "bomb shelter" nor do we have 3 years of stored food & water nor excessive stockpiles of ammunition - we do try to live a simple somewhat self sufficient life. We are not off grid - but can survive without power. We have a water source on the property - we can garden produce & garden year round - we have livestock & poultry & are knowledgeable about wild edible foods & medical uses & we have a small med kit for the livestock & ourselves. We are knowledgeable enough to be able to supply our medical needs (thyroid for me) & keep an old pair of glasses handy so if we cant get our preferred contacts. It would be a harder life than what we currently do but somewhat easier too as now we juggle working off farm & farm. I am most concerned about the sheer influx of people who are not prepared & whether I could protect my livestock & family. All that being said - we simply try to live in a way that it would not be a total shock or hardship to be even more self sufficient.
I do believe that there may be some affects from this.... it is not impossible and has happened before from solar flares but I am not changing my lifestyle - of course I really do not have to as we try to live simply anyway. I would encourage those concerned to simply try & change your lives in one or two ways to provide more security rather than sell out & stock a cave in mississippi! Simple things like stock the pantry with a few extras when you shop - plant a garden & can the produce. Plant a fruit tree or berry bushes. GET SOME CHICKENS - or other livestock that could feed you & yours. Start small - you just need enough to get by. GET OUT OF DEBT if possible - it isn't possible for us yet but we are working at it. That way if something happens you are somewhat prepared to start a new way of life.... & if nothing happens - you have gone back to a simpler (albiet harder/busier) life that teaches you a connection to the earth, your food source & shows you what you can live without. A simple life is harder physically & more demanding but full of pride that you can at least provide some of what your family needs - it also teaches you to appreciate those things we often take for granted & the extras are often shown to be more precious. Moderation in lifestyle & spending & if nothing happens you will be able to be debt free sooner, have relationships with neighbors you would not have taken time to cultivate & teach your children how to be more self sufficient. Win - win situation I think.
